Finishing/Attacking Functions are training exercises which are tasked at developing players/teams proficiency in goalscoring situations. These type of functions can look to develop the creation aspect of attacking situations or the art of goalscoring itself. Attacking exercises may be opposed or unopposed sessions, with unopposed exercises designed to develop technique and opposed exercises focusing on creating/finishing under pressure.

These finishing functions develop goal scoring techniques across a number of different scenarios, many of which are opposed or semi-opposed.
5 Finishing Patterns
These five finishing patterns develop finishing in game specific locations using realistic final third combinations. All patterns in this video are unopposed.
Pep Lijnders 3v2 Wave Game
This wave game demonstrated by Pep Lijnders at Liverpool FC is a free flowing 3v2 exercise, with each attack beginning with an unopposed passing pattern.
Everton FC 3v2 Football Fitness
Simple 3v2 practice completed at high intensity with recovery runs & counter-attacking. Working on specific types of GK distribution is a nice addition to this exercise.
2v2 into 3v2 Practice
Two players from each team arc runs past the grey flat. The coach passes to either team and a 2v2 takes place. After the 2v2, the winger on the scoring team will receive another ball and attack 3v2.
3v2 Counter-Attacks
In this session, a variety of 3v2 counter-attacking scenarios are played out. The coach decides which player begins the attack, by choosing which player to pass to.
Breaking Lines & Final 3rd Attacking
The coach serves the ball into the ‘Midfielders’ who combine before playing through into the ‘Attackers’. The attackers play 3v3 against the ‘Defenders’ who score in the mini-goals if they win the ball.
Wide 1v1's & CF Play
This attacking function centres around two 1v1's in wide areas, with the winger attempting to create enough space to play a cross into the CF waiting in the penalty area.
Combination Play (4v4+5)
In this attacking function, the attacking team must pass to both wingers or one attacking target before scoring in the goal. The defenders may score immediately after winning the ball.
4v4+3 into Attacking Pattern
After passing to both wide neutrals, the possession team can play the CF’s feet & break out into an unopposed pattern attacking the goal.
